The action thriller Citizen Vigilante, written and directed by Uwe Boll, was posted to X platform on Thursday.
“We made the decision to have that movie available for the whole world to see on X,” Boll said.

The movie, previously released theatrically in limited fashion and on digital platforms in the United States on June 19, 2026, by Quiver Distribution, will be accessible on X until 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time on June 27.
The 89-minute film follows Sanders, a former U.S. Army officer and wealthy American businessman living in Europe. After witnessing horrific crimes — including a mother being stabbed to death by migrant criminals in front of her young son — Sanders loses faith in the justice system and becomes a vigilante.
The film stars Armie Hammer as Sanders. Once one of Hollywood’s rising stars known for roles in The Social Network, Call Me by Your Name, and the The Lone Ranger, Hammer’s career was derailed by explosive sexual abuse allegations in 2021. No criminal charges were filed against him, and prosecutors later declined to pursue the case citing insufficient evidence.
Citizen Vigilante is facing significant difficulty with finding distribution, particularly in Germany. Director Uwe Boll stated that German authorities refused to issue a rating, effectively banning theatrical release there. Viewers in Germany can reportedly only access it via imported Blu-rays from Austria or Switzerland.
Boll described the decision as deliberate censorship and hired a lawyer to challenge it, losing in a 6-2 vote.
In the United States, the film received a limited theatrical release alongside digital and on-demand availability starting June 19. It is also available on streaming platforms Amazon and Apple TV, among others.
Critics have been largely negative. Variety called it “astonishingly bad” and a “violent, incoherent, morally bankrupt slice of exploitation,” arguing it harms Hammer’s attempted comeback. Other reviews have described it as blunt, crude, and xenophobic in tone.
Meanwhile, early audience reactions on X and elsewhere have been polarized: some viewers praised the film’s message and timeliness, while others criticized its execution, acting, or content as cringeworthy or poorly made.
The decision to make Citizen Vigilante available on X comes as interest in the film, fueled by clips posed on the platform, continues to grow.
